Come enjoy some of Cicero at his best – that incomparable suavitas together with the sinceritas one would expect in a dialogue dedicated to his best friend, Atticus. His On Old Age and On Friendship are truly miniature masterpieces (especially the former).
Or, should you prefer, read some Apostolic Fathers with us: from the Didache discovered at the turn of the 20th century or the Epistula ad Diognetum, which survives in a sole manuscript, long ascribed to Justin Martyr, you’ll find this Greek delightful to read; we will cover a lot of ground an greatly increase our fluency in reading. This will be of particular use to those interested in New Testament Greek (with which we will compare it frequently), Early Christianity, or the fascinating mingling of cultures in the Roman Empire.
As we will begin Wednesday the 11th of June for both of these courses, please send an email to save a spot (they are just over half-full) by June 4th. If you are interested, send me an email at the url@gmail.com with the course(s) you would like to take.
For your convenience, the syllabi are attached below. Hope to see you there!
